Description

Favouring intimacy, this choreographic installation for four performers explores the power that emerges from the lower body.

The squat is a crouched posture, a demanding physical exercise that becomes here an act of resistance. In this deep grounding, bodies rise and support one another, engaged in a struggle to lift themselves and free themselves from the weight of the ground.

Kim-Sanh Châu is a dance and video artist originally from Saigon, Vietnam. She says:

“Since 2021, I have been exploring this posture more and more. With SQUAT, I wanted to make it the very core of the piece. I am no longer speaking of a single cultural identity, but rather of a space of mixed references: Asian, North American, Western. They do not always overlap organically, and that reflects the reality of a mixed identity.”

Oscillating between strength and release, tension and surrender, the quartet sketches a subtle world where fragility becomes a virtue. The body becomes both material and landscape, crossed by invisible forces.
